Tender buttery Garlic Steak Bites are crisp on the edges and juicy inside with just a few minutes of cooking time. I’ve been hooked on cooking steak bites for a few years now.
I can never resist sneaking a bite (or three) straight from the pan once they’re ready!
Garlic Steak Bites
Plenty of fresh garlic and butter add flavor galore to this simple recipe for steak bites. If you haven’t yet tried steak bites, put them on your meal plan right now.
The juiciest steak you might ever eat can be ready in just five minutes! Crisp and browned on the outside, hot and juicy inside, there is never a single bite leftover when I make these.
In less time than it takes to heat the grill, you can have a steak dinner on the table. Served with a baked potato and roasted broccoli, Garlic Steak Bites are a huge favorite at dinner time.

These Asian Steak Bites are briefly marinated in a honey soy marinade that gives them a crazy amount of flavor.
They are phenomenal with a bowl of Simple Asian Rice on the side. I’ve also served these with Roasted Red Potatoes, Melting Sweet Potatoes, and Spicy Caramelized Cauliflower.
I have two boys who aren’t the biggest fans of steak – but they love mushrooms, go figure. (Yes, I know, it’s hard to imagine!) However, they dive right into these Buttered Steak Bites with Mushrooms and always ask for seconds. Served with Salt Potatoes and Honey Sriracha Roasted Broccoli, I love every bite of this meal.
We like to serve these Indian Spiced Steak Bites over this Carnitas Salad Bowl (just swap the pork for these steak bites), with Turmeric Butter Rice, or with these Turmeric Roasted Potatoes and Green Beans.
Cooking Tips
The goal when cooking the meat is to create a crisply browned outside and a lovely pink and juicy center for each piece.
As the meat is cooking, if a piece is slightly larger and has a side that looks like it hasn’t browned, flip to that side again for 20-30 seconds. Take caution not to overcook the steak.
Garlic Butter Steak Bites Recipe
- Cut the steak into bite-size pieces, about 1/2″ – 3/4″ in size. Sprinkle the meat generously with ¾ teaspoon salt and pepper. Heat a heavy flat bottomed stainless skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of butter. When the butter has melted, swirl to coat the pan. Add about half of the meat and spread it across the pan.
- Cook for 1 minute and then use a large spatula to flip the pieces over. Cook 1 more minute. Use a spatula to remove the meat to a plate and then repeat with the second batch of meat pieces.
- Add an additional tablespoon butter to the skillet. The entire cooking process for the meat should only take a few minutes total. When all of the meat has finished cooking, loosely tent foil over the cooked steak bites on the plate.
- Melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter in the hot skillet, along with the garlic. Scrape up any browned bits of meat from the bottom of the skillet. Pour the buttery pan drippings over the steak bites on the plate. Serve hot.

Russell Badessa says
Any reason why I couldn’t substitute sirloin tip steak for the skirt steak? I mean regarding tenderness/texture, flavor, other?
Mary Younkin says
The sirloin will be tougher, Russell. However, if you like normally enjoy sirloin, it will work fine.
Tracy Sylvio says
I use sirloin, but cook it longer and slower to tenderize it! Won’t be pink in the middle, but it is delish!
Connie says
How long and slow should I cook the sirloin for tenderness?
Larry says
I’ve never had steak bites but these must be tried.
Mary Younkin says
I hope that you love them as much as we do, Larry!

Have not made these as yet but plan to… The recipe instructions do not include when the garlic is added. So, when is the garlic added?
Mary Younkin says
You’ll add the garlic with the final bit of butter and then scrape up the pan drippings and drizzle it all over the meat. Enjoy!

What kind of steak would I use that would be close to skirt steak, we do not have skirt steak here in Canada ?
Mary Younkin says
It might also be called flank steak in your area, Carole.
barbara peace says
is the skirt or flank steak fatty? i want tenderness
Mary Younkin says
You’ll want to select a skirt/flank cut with plenty of marbling. This will create a perfectly tender bite.
