Pizza Soup is filled with hearty white beans, tender pasta, spicy sausage, and plenty of great Italian flavor.
While this could also be called ” Pasta Soup with White Beans and Sausage,” the soup smells so much like pizza while it simmers, our name for it is Pizza Soup.

My cousin, Helene, gave me this recipe over 10 years ago and my family has loved it ever since. We’ve all loved it quite literally from the very first bite and it became an instant favorite for us.
Her family started calling this Pizza Soup because the house smells simply fantastic while it is simmering. It really does smell like pizza!
Pizza Soup
This is one of the easiest soups you can make. The Italian sausage and garlicky tomatoes provide an abundance of flavor and you don’t need to add any additional spices.
Pizza Soup is my go-to, “I’m in the mood for soup, but have nothing planned ahead of time” meal.
This recipe could also be called, “I need to have dinner on the table in half an hour and don’t want to work for it.” Luckily, the whole family enjoys this dinner, it is often on our meal plan.

Pizza Soup Ingredients
- hot Italian sausage
- celery, sliced very thin
- garlic stewed tomatoes
- beef broth
- white beans
- small shell pasta
I like to use the teeny pasta found in the Hispanic section of most grocery stores. This pasta is often called salad pasta or salad-size pasta. Most pasta will swell to double or triple the original size after cooking, so keep that in mind when selecting your pasta.

If you’re looking for more easy soup recipes, we love this Slow Cooker Busy Day Potato Soup and the Hearty Italian Vegetable Beef Soup is a staple in our freezer.
Creamy Taco Soup and Asian Chicken Noodle Soup are also great soups for quick and easy dinners.
Kitchen Tip: I use this pot to make this recipe.

Pizza Soup
Ingredients
- 1 pound hot Italian sausage
- 1 stalk celery sliced thinly
- 14- ounce can garlic stewed tomatoes
- 2 quarts or 8 cups beef broth
- 2 cups cooked white beans or 1 can small white beans, drained
- 2/3 cup small shell pasta I buy the tiny shells (see note below)
Instructions
- In a large pot, cook and crumble the sausage over medium heat. Drain completely and then add all remaining ingredients except the pasta.
- Bring to a boil and add the pasta shells. After the water boils again, reduce the heat and simmer until the pasta is tender, about 16-20 minutes. Enjoy!

It's hard to beat simple and delicious – nice shot of it
I just bought some vegetarian sausage that I've been meaning to try but haven't quite gotten around to yet…this soup is the perfect excuse! Total comfort food.
Keep the sausage recipes coming! We don't eat enough of it around here in my book 🙂
The soup looks wonderful. I'm made something similar before, but yours looks so much better!!
I'll trade you some of my comfort food for some of yours! Looks yummy.
I love sausage, but Ben won't eat it!
This does sound easy, delicious and hearty. I haven't had pasta soup in agges
Looks good! I made Zuppa Toscana for the guys in my Hubs poker club a couple of nights ago. I will have to try this one on them.
Oh Mary… this one has me drooling. Bookmarked!
Your soup looks yummy! I love bean soup and will have to make it with the sausage now.
Maybe it's the wet, cold temperatures plunging outside right now but this looks exceptionally good!
Mmm. this sounds wonderful Mary…and it looks pretty, too. I just bought a few packages of italian chicken sausage – this would be great for dinner tomorrow night. I need something easy and I think the girls would like this, too.
BTW – I made your rice bowls with the pineapple and it was amazing…made that Teriyaki sauce from Jen's site, too. That is a new favorite flavor of mine – Pineapple in a stir fry…it was great:-)
A bowl of comfort!
Mmmm, looks delicious and simple; two perfect qualities for a warming winter soup. Will be trying this one out soon.
What a beautiful bowl of soup. Perfect for these colder days, even here in Phoenix 🙂
Great soup! One that I have to try, my family would love it.
All too often I feel that we forget about putting sausage into soup and it always tastes sooo good. Love the term of Pizza Soup!
I like the way that you have put all the pizza ingredients into a nice and beautiful home-cooked soup. This is simply delicious!
Hi Mary – ahh, I wished I came to see this post before dinner tonight. I have almost all these ingredients but didn't even come up a recipe like this. It would be a very nice comfort dish otherwise – we ended up eating leftover Japanese curry… I'll have to make it when I am back from my vacation. This looks like a wonderful soup for the family!
I have never had a pasta soup but this sounds hearty and yummy. Would definitely love to try this sometime this winter:)
