Pulled pork, baked beans, and southern-style coleslaw are layered together to make the Best Ever Barbecue Sundaes. Does a BBQ Sundae sound just too strange? Do you trust me? Please try it. There is NOTHING, no summer food, no barbecue or potluck favorite, literally no other summer food that makes me as happy as a BBQ Sundae.
While my husband was traveling a few years ago, he tried a barbecue sundae in a restaurant. He described the meal to me, and I couldn’t even imagine it. So, naturally, I had to recreate it as soon as possible for myself.
Once I wrapped my brain around all of the different foods piled on a plate or in a jar, I realized this was going to be amazing. Sweet and Tangy Pulled Pork, the best ever Slow Cooker Baked Beans, and Southern Style Coleslaw? That combination is a winner in pretty much any form.
Let me tell you that this meal is spectacular. I sighed after the first bite and I didn’t stop taking bites (while standing at the kitchen counter!) until that jar was empty. I’m not even kidding you. I liked this meal so much, I made it again the very next night.
In the past few years, BBQ Sundaes have become a summer staple on our meal plan. I’ve built these sundaes with just about every batch of pulled pork I’ve made in the time since I first tried them. Green Chile Pulled Pork, Slow Cooker Carnitas, the original Sweet and Tangy Pulled Pork, store-bought pre-made pulled pork from the refrigerated section at the store. However you get your hands on pulled pork, I highly recommend that you make these sundaes.
My whole family (and every friend we’ve introduced to this combination) adores this meal. I typically pile the sundaes on paper plates for a super easy dinner night, but it thrills my kids any time I serve the sundaes in mason jars. Pretty foods always taste better, right?
Kitchen Tip: I use this knife, this bowl, and this spatula to make this recipe.

In the south, this is a common appetizer at weddings and parties…they use the small shot glass size glasses.

The first time I ever saw this was in a Southern Living magazine and I thought it looked amazing but wasn't sure about it. But it totally works like this, doesn't it? It's not too much different than eating the same ingredients on a plate, you just get flavors mixed together here and there. Nice job.

I've had something similar to this called Okie Hash by a couple of southern guys with a bbq truck up in the Pacific NW. It was brisket, beans and cole slaw layered and topped with your choice of spicy or not so spicy bbq sauce. Quite tasty! This one looks good, too.

This looks so wonderful to me! I love the whole idea of putting these dishes together, and in a mason jar it looks so cute. I just made your coleslaw recently and absolutely loved it! Can't wait to try your bar-b-q sauce as well. Thanks so much for this fun and delicious idea, Mary!

I love this plate so much. I really wish that I could find more of them! This was a really fun find at an antique store years ago.

We do something similar, but we’d never thought to call it a sundae. Props to whoever thought of it. I usually cover the plate with my crunchy ingredient. So, I’d cover the plate with the coleslaw, then layer the rest as you did. Great combo, BTW. Thanks for the name and the flavor mashup!

The BBQ sundaes or Cowboy Cocktails as we call them are a great money maker for groups trying to make money during a parade, homecoming, Christmas stroll–whatever. We layer them in a “hot” glass, stick in a fork. You are done. The biggest thing is cooking your pork in a crockpot and stirring up your beans. Bagged cabbage and bottle coleslaw dressing work very well. We do make good beans. I use different flavors of “Grilling beans” and dress them up a bit. Still easy.
