Welcome to the weekend, my friends! We spent the past few days in Kansas City and it was fun to share the city with my family. Our first stop the very night we arrived was Q39 for truly exceptional barbecue. (I was here a month or so ago and Chef Rob’s brisket and burnt ends blew my mind at the time. I was so excited to bring my family back!)

My guys loved every single bite. We ordered way too much food and still managed to eat it all. This is an absolute must if you’re in the area. Other highlights this week were the WW1 Museum and The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. I really like both of these museums and my family enjoyed them too.

It was ridiculously hot this week – we’ve managed to hit a nasty heatwave with heat advisory warnings in nearly every state we’ve visited this summer. So, we headed home yesterday (a few days early) and are very much enjoying cooler temps and ice-cold air conditioning once again.

ON THE BLOG this week: Chocolate Covered Strawberry Ice Cream is an intense strawberry burst of flavor with melting chocolate pieces and a creamy vanilla base. I was surprised by just how much this ice cream reminds me of chocolate-covered strawberries.

Buttery, crisp Polish Pierogies stuffed with potatoes, cheese, and sauerkraut are an immediate favorite with everyone who tries them. There are a lot of steps to making pierogi but don’t let that intimidate you. Anyone can make these! I recommend diving in and making a big batch at one time, so you can freeze some for later.

What I’m CRAVING: These Barbecue Bacon Cheddar Burgers caught my eye this morning and oh my word, they look incredible!

My FAVORITE THINGS this week are these hair ties. I’ve been using these weird stretchy hair ties since my stylist told me about them a few years ago, as they allow me to pile my hair right on top of my head without causing headaches or pulling out any hairs. While we’ve been traveling it’s been ridiculously HOT, so I’ve had my hair twisted on top of my head every single day for three weeks.

I still love love love these hair sticks that I told you about last year, but they work best at the back of my head. (They would look a little goofy on top of my head.) And when we’re on the road, I typically lean back into a seat – i.e. hair is best on top of my head. All this rambling to say, I like these weird-looking hair ties. The end.

What I’m WATCHING: The Martian. Matt Damon did such a fantastic job with this role. We watched this one with the kids this week and they all liked it. My youngest was absolutely glued to the movie throughout the entire two and half hours.

“Maybe that’s the best part of going away for a vacation – coming home again.” – Madeleine L’Engle

Wishing you a beautiful week full of little things that make you smile!
