Welcome to the weekend, my friends! Guess what??? Our chickens finally gifted us with some eggs! So much excitement over here this week. I can hardly wait until the rest of the hens stop freeloading out there. We’re all very excited about an abundance of eggs.
GIVEAWAY CLOSED Today, for the sixth week of the 12 Weeks of Christmas Giveaways, I’m giving away a Kindle Paperwhite. I switched from traditional books to my Kindle paperwhite over 5 years ago and I’ve never looked back.
For the most part, I use my library to borrow books online in addition to watching for Amazon sales and saving all my gift cards for books. I’m all about getting my hands on as many books as possible. And to make your reading life even more fun, I’m adding in a $50 Amazon Gift Card to help load your new Kindle up and get your started.
To be entered, leave a comment on THIS BLOG POST telling me about one of your favorite books, or a book you’ve been wanting to read. The winner will be selected on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at 11:59pm EST.
Here’s the lucky winner’s comment:
AND there’s a BONUS GIVEAWAY happening over on Instagram this week! If you are in the Columbus area (specifically within driving distance of Granville, OH – because I love my awesome village and want to share some fun) you can leave a comment on THIS INSTAGRAM POST and enter to win a $100 gift card to Snapshots Lounge. (I recommend Luke’s Sinful Snack – my version is pictured on Instagram, The Cuban or The Creep sandwiches, and pretty much any chef recommended special.)
ON THE BLOG this week: Salty bacon, tender sweet potatoes, and caramelized Brussels sprouts are combined in this fantastic side dish. Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Brussels Sprouts and Bacon are pure awesomeness from start to finish.
Everything you love about a fully loaded baked potato is tucked into this rich and creamy Baked Potato Soup. There are fluffy bites of baked potato in every bite.
Pumpkin Spice Waffles are a fall favorite with my whole family. Topped with my grandmother’s Waffle Sauce, this is a breakfast or brinner that we all look forward to.
What I’m CRAVING: This Chocolate Caramel Toffee Cake over at Curly Girl Kitchen caught my eye this week and it sounds incredible. And this Zuppa Toscana (Creamy Sausage, Potato, and Kale Soup) from The Food Charlatan looks absolutely mouthwatering.
My FAVORITE THINGS this week are these 2020 t-shirts. I ordered them for my guys for Christmas to wear with their new pajama pants and I can’t wait to see their faces. (And yes, I’m safe to share this with you here, because I’m pretty sure there isn’t anything my teenagers are less likely to read than their mom’s weekly newsletter.)
What I’m READING: About Your Father and Other Celebrities I Have Known by Peggy Rowe. After reading Mike Rowe’s book earlier this year, I knew I needed to get my hands on his mom’s book. He definitely inherited her ability to tell a great story. I couldn’t put this book down and I found myself cracking up laughing more than once.
What I’m WATCHING: I started watching the first season of Chuck the other day and so far, I like it. I really like waiting to watch a series after it’s complete. Here’s hoping this is a good one. Have you watched this one?
“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22-23
Wishing you a beautiful week full of little things that make you smile!

I enjoy your newsletter, and love the recipes! I had to comment when I saw you were giving away a Kindle. This has been on my Christmas wish list for several years. But, by the time we spoil our grandkids, “Santa” is out of money. 🙂
I love to read, and always seem to have even more books I want to get. Some of my favorite authors have new books out: James Patterson, J.D. Robb and Michael Connelly to name a few. I’d like to get Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey, too.
Thanks for the opportunity to add my name to the drawing. Fingers crossed!

Anything new from Ken Follett. I’ve been reading historical romances, so a historical novel would be great.

The last book I read was This Is How It Always Is by Laurie Frankel.
Insightful read…

I love to read and mostly get my books from the local Library Book Sales. With the Covid 19 virus the sales have stopped, so I find myself trading books with friends. We just leave the books on each other’s porch to avoid contact. Tricky but necessary right now. I want to read Coast to Coast Murders by James Patterson and Return by Nicholas Sparks. I read many varieties of books and they are great stress relievers. This giveaway is a great idea and I am sure anyone that wins will just love receiving the Kindle.

Loved When We Were Yours–such a good historical fiction book.

My favorite book is Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. It is a World War II book about Louis Zamperini. A story about survival, resilience and redemption.

Most recent fabulous book read was The Invincible Summer of Juniper Jones by Daven McQueen. About a younique young lady looking for someone to adventure with. Covers heart warming friendships. Race. Discrimination. History. A must read!

I’ve been reading books by Susan Stoker. I love her characters.

A book recommended to me by a library clerk was William Boyle’s “A friend is a gift you give yourself”. It blew me away, with great characters and the boroughs of NYC. I went on to read 2 more of his since then. This is the book I tell people about when they ask for my recommendation.

A book I really enjoyed was American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. Looking forward to the new Lee Child book which should be coming out any day.

An old favorite that I revisited this year was Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier! I actually read it over the summer and then was delighted to hear that Netflix remade the movie so it was a win/win! I’d be so grateful to have a Kindle…thanks for the chance!

I just read American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. Although widely criticized, it was an interesting read from cover to cover. I also recently purchased Czech Cookbook, which is a cuisine I am trying to learn.

“Five Smooth Stones” is an oldie but a joy to read and reread. Might be hard to find but well worth the effort. More recently “The Art of Racing in the Rain.” Loved it and have recommended to many. Could to name many, many more but these were the first two to come to mind.
