1½cupsheavy cream
⅔cupsugar
2packetspowdered cheese from Kraft Macaroni and Cheese
1½cupwhole milk
½-1teaspoonvanilla extract
Instructions
Pour the cream into a saucepan and add the sugar and salt. Warm the mixture over medium heat, just until the sugar dissolves. Add the powdered cheese and whisk to combine.
Remove from the heat and add the milk and vanilla extract. Stir to combine and chill in the refrigerator.
When ready to churn, whisk the mixture once more and then pour it into the ice cream maker. Churn according to the manufacturer's instructions. Transfer the finished ice cream to an airtight container and place in the freezer until ready to serve.
Notes
The vanilla extract in this recipe will control the depth of flavor in this ice cream. It will rapidly become the dominant flavor depending on both how much is added AND how long it is in the freezer. While the ice cream base is warm off the stove and when it is freshly churned, you'll have a hint of the savory flavor at the end of the bite. However, if more vanilla is added, the flavor changes to almost a caramel and the mac and cheese flavor will be much harder to discern.I've made this with and without vanilla, and in different amounts. It's fun to play with it and see how you like it best.
