Ingredients
2cupsrolled oats
3½cupswater
½cuppecans or walnutschopped, plus more for topping if desired
½teaspoonkosher salt
½teaspooncinnamon
dash of nutmeg
3medium size ripe pearsabout 2 cups worth, peeled and diced small
¼cuplight brown sugaradjust to taste
buttera teaspoon or so for on top of each serving
Instructions
Combine the oats, water, pecans or walnuts, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium-sized saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
As soon as it boils, reduce the heat to low and simmer for just a few minutes until the oats are soft. Stir in the pears and cook just long enough to warm them, about 1 minute. Remove from the heat.
Scoop into serving bowls and top with butter and brown sugar, keeping in mind that the sweeter the pears, the less sugar you may need.
