Welcome to the weekend, my friends! Guess what??? Our chickens finally gifted us with some eggs! So much excitement over here this week. I can hardly wait until the rest of the hens stop freeloading out there. We’re all very excited about an abundance of eggs.

GIVEAWAY CLOSED Today, for the sixth week of the 12 Weeks of Christmas Giveaways, I’m giving away a Kindle Paperwhite. I switched from traditional books to my Kindle paperwhite over 5 years ago and I’ve never looked back.

For the most part, I use my library to borrow books online in addition to watching for Amazon sales and saving all my gift cards for books. I’m all about getting my hands on as many books as possible. And to make your reading life even more fun, I’m adding in a $50 Amazon Gift Card to help load your new Kindle up and get your started.

AND there’s a BONUS GIVEAWAY happening over on Instagram this week! If you are in the Columbus area (specifically within driving distance of Granville, OH – because I love my awesome village and want to share some fun) you can leave a comment on THIS INSTAGRAM POST and enter to win a $100 gift card to Snapshots Lounge. (I recommend Luke’s Sinful Snack – my version is pictured on Instagram, The Cuban or The Creep sandwiches, and pretty much any chef recommended special.)

ON THE BLOG this week: Salty bacon, tender sweet potatoes, and caramelized Brussels sprouts are combined in this fantastic side dish. Roasted Sweet Potatoes with Brussels Sprouts and Bacon are pure awesomeness from start to finish.

Everything you love about a fully loaded baked potato is tucked into this rich and creamy Baked Potato Soup. There are fluffy bites of baked potato in every bite.

Pumpkin Spice Waffles are a fall favorite with my whole family. Topped with my grandmother’s Waffle Sauce, this is a breakfast or brinner that we all look forward to.

What I’m CRAVING: This Chocolate Caramel Toffee Cake over at Curly Girl Kitchen caught my eye this week and it sounds incredible. And this Zuppa Toscana (Creamy Sausage, Potato, and Kale Soup) from The Food Charlatan looks absolutely mouthwatering.

My FAVORITE THINGS this week are these 2020 t-shirts. I ordered them for my guys for Christmas to wear with their new pajama pants and I can’t wait to see their faces. (And yes, I’m safe to share this with you here, because I’m pretty sure there isn’t anything my teenagers are less likely to read than their mom’s weekly newsletter.)

What I’m READING: About Your Father and Other Celebrities I Have Known by Peggy Rowe. After reading Mike Rowe’s book earlier this year, I knew I needed to get my hands on his mom’s book. He definitely inherited her ability to tell a great story. I couldn’t put this book down and I found myself cracking up laughing more than once.

What I’m WATCHING: I started watching the first season of Chuck the other day and so far, I like it. I really like waiting to watch a series after it’s complete. Here’s hoping this is a good one. Have you watched this one?

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” – Lamentations 3:22-23

Wishing you a beautiful week full of little things that make you smile!

    Hi Mary

I read a lot, maybe a book every 2 days. Here is one I know you will love Mary, “Big Lies in Small Town” by Diane Chamberlain. A story of 2 artists one in the 30’s and a restoring artist in1980 of a picture that was stored by another painter.

I love your blog because not only recipes to try but also books and items you use and like. Lots of good selections. I use our library down loads, book bub and amazon. My kindle is as an old old model. I use it when we travel.

Great that you are getting eggs. Would love to have a few little ones here but how does not allow plus we have a lot of hawks that fly above.

    Keep up the good work. 10 0ut 0f 10.

I have always loved reading ever since I was a child. I only read Kindle books and am embarrassed to admit how many I currently have in my TBR list ! I read a lot of genres but one of my favorite authors is Liane Moriarty.

    Hi Mary,
I’ve been reading “Super Atractor” by Gabrielle Berstien. It’s about atracting the positive thing you want in your life, and why some of the not so positive things keep showing up in your life. It’s been a great read so far.

Good morning. I am reading Angora Alibi from Sally Goldenbaum’s The Seaside Knitter’s Mystery Series. Easy reading and some great recipes at the end of the book. I am enjoying reading the comments for more book recommendations. Thanks for a wonderful blog with so many great recipes and stories.

I would love a Kindle Paperwhite! I would download Janet Evanovich’s soon to be released Fortune and Glory : Tantalizing Twenty-Seven. Her lighthearted series of bounty hunter Stephanie Plum are laugh out load and endearing.

    Hi Mary!
I loved reading the first ‘Global Search and Rescue’ book by Susan May Warren. I’m eagerly awaiting the rest in this new series. It’s Christian fiction with intrigue, excitement, romance, and with great character development! They are easy, enjoyable reads – just what I need right now.
    Have a great day,

I am reading Stephen Sinatra’s ‘Metabolic Cardiology’ and recently finished Mastering Life Before It’s Too Late by Robert Morgan. I plan to read ‘The Carnivore Code’ by Paul Saladino; although time for reading is scarce these days with taking care of 94 year old mother and a husband who retired – limited leisure or alone time – Ha!

Any book by Sandra Dallas! Another favorite is The Secret Keeper by Kate Morten. I never read as much as I’d like in the summer and am looking forward to longer evenings and time to escape with a good book! I just discovered your blog and it is a joy!

    Hi Mary,
Impossible to choose a favorite book since there are so many that I have loved. I just finished reading Alex Trebek’s autobiography ‘The Answer Is…’, next will be ‘His Very Best, Jimmy Carter, A Life’ by Jonathan Alter, and the audiobook “Tough Love’ by Susan Rice. I am also really enjoying The Wheel of Time Series and am waiting for ‘The Dragon Reborn’ Book 3 from the library.

So many books, so little time! I recently discovered the Charles Todd series and have been captivated. It is about a Scotland Yard detective, having PTSD after WWI, and there are over 20 books now. Each one gives a look at various parts of England in the inter-war years and is just fascinating.

I am currently reading Tim Keller’s book “Making Sense of God.” He does a terrific job of using thought and logic to present Christianity. And always, I have one of C. S. Lewis’ books at hand.
