No special tools, no fancy gadgets, just a simple plastic straw. Who knew that it would save me a considerable amount of work in the kitchen this summer? I ran across this tip here and couldn’t wait to try it.
I love strawberries and I add them to my salads almost every day. Some of our favorites are the Spinach Fruit Salad with Strawberry Grape Vinaigrette, Red Wine and Honey Salad with Fruit, Spring Salad with Poppyseed Dressing and my oldest son’s favorite Strawberry Spinach Salad.
Simply push the straw through the bottom of the berry and up through the top. The stem simply pops off with the white of the berry. My kids think that this is the coolest thing ever, especially when I hand them a straw stacked with berries.
If you want to bake something with all of your freshly stemmed strawberries; this Strawberry Rhubarb Brown Sugar Crunch is my favorite strawberry dessert!

I don't get it. What problem is this supposed to solve? Why not just cut off the stem with a knife?
Anonymous says
because you end up cutting off too much, and you are left with the white stuff inside.

Using the straw instead of a knife is safer for kids

Brilliant. So easy, and you don't waste the good part of the strawberry.
